Well-Being Wednesday Initiative

4th Nov 2020

This year, as a school, we have chosen to focus some of our School Development work on the issue of Health and Well-Being. After the lockdown and a long period out of school, we are determined to provide children with an opportunity to participate in lessons and activities which develop a greater awareness and understanding of how to look after their health and well-being and why this is so important.

To this end, we have introduced the "Well-Being Wednesday Initiative" beginning today. Each week, every class will participate in a range of activities and lessons which will support work on health and well-being, be that social, emotional, mental or physical well-being. Activities may include circle time, mindfulness work, music, yoga, painting- drawing, daily mile walks, to name a few. We intend that classes will share pictures and information on their class pages and hopefully that children will talk to their parents about the variety of things they are doing.

We will incorporate work on Healthy Eating, using the outdoor environment, Sustrans activities, as well as lessons on Anti-Bullying Week; which is coming up on week beginning 16th November. Additionally we will continue to promote our school counselling service, which children can be referred to and we will mark and recognise national days which focus on aspects of health and well-being. The first of these days is coming up on 13th November, which is World Kindness Day; a value we have emphasized and celebrated in school over the last few years.

During what has been an unprecedented year, we also hope to get parent views on aspects of Health and Well-Being and we look forward to providing children with skills, strategies and knowledge which will allow them to develop positive mental well-being and good health for life.

Please be sure to have a browse on the class pages and see what the the children have been up to!
