Safer Internet week 5th to 8th Feb 2024 at BIPNS

1st Feb 2024

Hello Parents!

Celebrating SAFER INTERNET DAY with hundreds of school across the UK, we have many activities planned for the whole school community.

Letters, family pledge, a discussion zone activity and info on DRESS IN ORANGE Day THURSDAY 8th 2024, have all been sent home.  Please check your child’s folder for these documents.

Parents- homework is over to you this week!  Our pupils will be making sure Discussion Zone happens throughout the week at home!  What changes will you make?  What things will each of you discover as you go through each discussion point?  What will your family pledge entail?

In school we will be exploring the themes of SID 2024 and understanding how to Inspire Change Online.

The aim is to open the paths of communication between adult and child- both at home and school.  Resist the temptation to remove digital devices as a form of sanction if or when something goes wrong- this closes down the path of trust and openness for communication for children and teens and younger adults.  We want to hear what help they need.  We want to be able to answer questions they have.  This week in school and home, we will be focussing on having REAL conversations.  The children are well versed in what they should not do.  As are we, as adults.  However in reality, our practices can vary- so, how do we keep ourselves and our children safe in line with how they use the technology?

Hopefully this week will help every Braidside Family and teacher have these very conversations, make changes as required and become more knowledgeable and in control of our pupils’ lives online.

If anyone needs help or advice on filters, WiFi options, or help with unwanted online content, please contact us at the school and we can point you in the right direction.

Share your good practice with your Braidside friends and families- discuss what each of you are doing as parents- what works for one household, may not be as effective for another.

Parents - feel free to wear something orange too for drop off and pick up on Thursday!

STAY SAFE ONLINE.

MANY THANKS FOR ALL YOU PLAN TO DO THIS WEEK WITH YOUR CHILD, ORALLY AND PRACTICALLY.
