Primary40 tasks Friday, the 29th of January 2021

28th Jan 2021

Hello boys and girls

These are your tasks for today. These are also uploaded to Teams. Please make sure you upload your work so I can view it and give you feedback.

Literacy

Today we will be watching our BBC Look and Learn literacy programme called Spywatch. So far our two evacuees Norman and Mary have been placed in their new homes. Norman has gone to live with Aunty Amy at Wells Farm where he meets a fellow evacuee called Dennis. The boys meet Polly, who, they don’t like at first and begin to experience country life. Mary who has been placed at Westbourne Hall with Mr. Grainger and Miss Millington, who are very unpleasant, is not enjoying her stay.  There are literacy tasks (3A, 3B and 3C) connected with today’s programme for you to complete which you’ll find in your learning pack.

Google YouTube and type in Spywatch and click on Episode3 Spies All Around. Watch the programme carefully as it sets the scene for future episodes in the story.

Task 3A: The Grainger and Millington file: Top Secret. This task can be completed on your sheet.

Things are not always as they seem! Read the extracts on your sheet. Do Mr Grainger and Miss Millington really mean what they say? Write down your thoughts about what you think they really mean. Remember what you saw in the episode.

Task 3B: The greatest.

This task can be completed on the sheet. You might like to watch the singers again for this one. In this task we are comparing things. We are using the adjectives to compare things. If we compare two things we usually add -ER after the adjectives, for example, You are tall but I am taller. If we are comparing more than two things we add -EST after the adjectives, for example John is tall, Paul is taller  but I am the tallest. There are some exceptions to this rule. In these cases you add MORE instead of ER and MOST instead of EST before the adjectives. Good luck👍

Task 3C Double Trouble

This task can be completed on your sheet. Some words have double letters (rabbit) and some words have le endings (heckle) and some have le endings with double letters (little).

Part 1: Can you sort the words in the word box into the correct group.

Part 2: Can you add any examples of your own in the groups above.

Remember to upload your work so I can view it and give you feedback.

So good luck and enjoy Spywatch, don’t go watching another episode until next week I know you will want to!

Numeracy

Complete today’s mental maths questions from this week sheet.

Today we are going to continue looking at fractions as part of our numeracy topic work

As a reminder from last weeks work, what is a fraction? A fraction is part of a whole. It represents equal parts of a whole or group. When we divide or share a whole or something into equal parts or groups, each part or group is a fraction of the whole. When we write a fraction there are two main parts, the numerator and the denominator. The numerator is how many parts we have and the denominator is how many parts the whole is divided into. Fractions are written with the numerator on top of the denominator with a line between them.

I would like you to watch last weeks short video on fractions type in the following www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnFROetuUKg

When you have watched the video I would like you to find your fractions booklet in your learning packs. I would like you to complete pages 15 to 21 which covers the quarter fraction in other words when something is divided into four equal parts. Think carefully before you colour in and answer the questions.

World Around Us

Today we are going to continue to look at the war in Europe during World War II. Many countries were involved apart from Germany and the UK. Some countries were involved from the beginning, whereas others became involved when they were invaded by Germany.

I would like you to watch this YouTube video which tells us about the war in Europe and who was involved. Type in:www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUXluYHFgBE (World War II short version by Geo history). As this is a world war there was also some information about countries from Asia and Africa that became involved. Many of these countries were already ruled by other countries so when the ruling countries were invaded, these countries also became part of Germany. This often meant there was fighting between these countries in other parts of the world such as Africa.

Watch the video and using the map from the video, I would like you to find 10 countries (there are more countries) involved in Europe in the war. The first two I will give to you - Germany and the United Kingdom.

Diary

in your diary complete your diary entry for today. Remember to put the date and answer the questions shown on your timetable. Think about the day you have had and the work or things you have done this week.
