Primary 4O tasks: Thursday 28th January 2021

26th Jan 2021

Hello boys and girls

These are the tasks for today. They are also uploaded and posted on Teams.

Remember to upload your work so that I can view it an give you feedback.

  •  Literacy

Today we are going to continue with our Guided Reading. Have a look on the timetable for today and see which book or chapter you have to read. Once you have read your book or chapter, discuss what you have read with the adult who has listened to you. Once you have done this, take from your learning pack, the task for this piece of guided reading. When you answer your questions remember to use full sentences, capital letters and full stops. Remember to make sure your handwriting is neat and well presented. Read over your answers to ensure they make sense.

Once you have completed your guided reading task then you have an opportunity to continue learning and testing yourself on your weekly spellings which you received on Monday.

  • Numeracy

Using this week’s mental maths sheet complete Thursday’s tasks.

We are continuing to learn about the six times table.

For today's warm up, we are going to count up and backwards in twos, fives and tens from 1 to 100 and 100 to 1. I would like you to now count up in threes from 1 to 30 and back down to 1. Now count up in fours from 1 to 40 and then back down to 1. How did you get on? Give yourself a thumbs up for your efforts.

I have a video about the six times table for you to watch. It will help in your learning and hopefully you’ll be able to sing along and move with it. This video is on YouTube. Type in : www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpbc-1a7lMo (Counting By Sixes Song from Have Fun Teaching) Play it a couple of times to help with your learning. I would now like you to watch again our friend Akash as he shows us his awesome trick for learning the 6 times table. Type in the following YouTube video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8j11wwlds8 (Learn 6 times multiplication table maths tricks and tips by Akash Vukoti).

I would now like you to complete the attached task. Copy out the sums into your numeracy book and fill in the answers.

  • World around us

Today we are going to be looking at what it was like to be an evacuee. As we have said before, many of the children who were sent from the cities to the country prior to the beginning of war in 1939, had never been to the country. Many of the children were sent either with their brothers or sisters or both, but often there were children who were sent on their own. The families they were sent to had the job of looking after them and making sure they were safe. This also meant the children having to attend local schools and in some cases having to fit in with country life.

I would like you to watch the following video about being an evacuee during World War II and the the evacuee’s experiences. How would you feel if you were an evacuee? Do you think you would like it? What would you miss? What do you think would be new? Have any of you ever been away without your parents, say for example on a scout camp, how did you feel?

Type in: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hd4pMh_XPck (An evacuee tells her story) and listen carefully to her story. Make a list of 10 things that this evacuee experienced, you may need to play the video over again.

  • Diary

I would like you to complete today’s diary entry. Think about your feelings and what you did today. Use the questions on your timetable to help you with your thoughts.
