Primary 4O Tasks Monday 1 March 2021

28th Feb 2021

Hello boys and girls. I hope you all had a relaxing and safe weekend. We are still in lockdown and doing remote learning, using our online tasks and learning packs. Hopefully we shall return to school in the not too distant future. This week’s weather forecast is for mild and dry weather which sounds good for getting outdoors.

Thursday 4 March is World Book Day when we celebrate everything to do with books 📚and reading📖 So watch 👀 this space for more information and activities throughout the week.

These are your tasks for today. Remember to upload your finished work so I can view it and give you some feedback. Have a good day and as always try your best 😃

Literacy

In  your New Wave English in practice booklet complete Day 6 of the booklet. Read the questions carefully making sure if you are asked to write an answer you write it in the box provided, if you’re asked to circle an answer you circle it, or if you are asked to tick a question, you tick it. Only do Day 6 today.

Our main task today is a comprehension called, Going for a picnic, which you will find in your learning pack. You will complete this comprehension in your literacy book. Read the comprehension text carefully a couple of times and think about what it is telling you.  Remember to number the questions, date your work and give it a title. Remember to answer your questions in full sentences using capital letters, full stops, neat handwriting and take a new line for each answer.

In your pack you will also find your weekly spellings for this week. Please practice and learn them through the week. Test yourself and get an adult to test you each day.

There is an activity to go along with your spellings in your learning pack which can be completed during the week.

On Thursday it is World Book Day, so today I have a song for you to listen to. Now listen carefully and see if you can find at least TEN (10) books hidden in the song. Write down the titles and see how you get on. I listened to the song a couple of times and found more new titles each time. Good luck.🤔

Remember to upload your work so I can view it and give you feedback.

Numeracy

In your learning pack you will find your mental maths workbook for the next four weeks. Complete Monday’s tasks for the second week.

For the remainder of this term we are going to look at money. We are going to look at the coins we use and how we can use our addition, subtraction and multiplication skills that we have been learning this year and how we can apply them to money.

Remember we only have the following coins in our currency or money 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2. Other countries will have different coins.

Today we are going to focus on the 20p coin. As we know from our number bonds the number 20 can be made up in a number of different ways, for example 1 + 19,  2 + 18, 3 + 17 and so on. When it comes to making 20p using money, we are limited to the coins in our money system, 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p and 20p. We do not have all those other numbers such as 3, 4, 7 and so on that we can use. Think what other numbers are not coins in our currency.

In your learning packs you will find two money booklets. I would like you to select Book 1 and complete the Next three pages (3, 4 and 5) that focus on the 20p coin. On the first page (3 The 20p coin) you have to show which coins can be changed for 20p. The second and third pages 4 and 5 focus on giving back change from 20p. Your answers to the questions will be shown as the coins you would receive in your change from 20p. If you have coins at home you can use them to help you. Remember you can only use the coins we have in our currency.

Remember to upload your work so I can view it and give you feedback.

World Around Us

For this part of Term 2 we will be looking at Mammals. As we now know mammals have certain characteristics that qualify them to be placed in that group. There are three main types of mammals.

Placental Mammals

Placental mammals give birth to live young. While in the womb, the developing fetus receives nourishment from an organ called a placenta.

  • Examples of placental mammals include: tiger 🐅 blue whale🐳 vampire bat🦇and man🧍‍♀️🧍‍♂️.

Marsupials

Marsupials are mammals whose young are born in a relatively undeveloped state. After being born, the young (called ‘joeys’) crawl into a special pouch in the mother’s body. Here they undergo further development, and have access to their mother’s milk.

Most marsupials live in Australia, but some are found in the Americas.

  • Example of marsupials include: red kangaroo 🦘koala, Tasmanian devil, and Virginia opossum

Monotremes

Monotremes are the only mammals that don’t give birth to live young. Instead, they lay eggs.

Despite this, monotremes still nurse their young with milk, have hair, and possess three bones in the middle ear: features that identify them as being mammals.

Scientists believe that they were ‘left behind’ by the branch of mammals that would go on to become the marsupials and placental mammals. This is why the monotremes still lay eggs like their reptilian ancestors.

    *  Example of monotremes include: echidnas and the duck-billed platypus.

I would like you to watch the two attached YouTube videos on the platypus and marsupials. In your project book I would like you to, under the title, Different types of Mammals, and using the information above and the videos, write five interesting facts about a platypus and five interesting facts about a marsupial. I then would like you to draw a picture of a platypus and a marsupial. Use the Internet or the videos to help you.

Remember to upload your work so I can view it and give you feedback.

Diary

I would like you to complete a diary entry for today. Remember to date your entry and answer the following questions:

How do I feel today? What did I like doing? What’s the weather like? What is happening in the world today?

For the last question you will have to listen to the news or ask an adult. I had some interesting replies to this question last week, so keep them coming.

Remember to upload your work so I can view it and give you feedback.
