Primary 4O Tasks for Thursday 4 March 2021

1st Mar 2021

Hello boys and girls. Today is World Book Day, a day for celebrating everything to do with books and reading. I hope you have enjoyed the fun activities this week. It was lovely to see and talk to some of you yesterday in our Teams Catch-up meeting. I hope that it is not too long before we are all back in the classroom and getting back to normal. Remember to fill in your Remote Learning questionnaire and return it. These are your tasks for today. Remember to upload your finished work so I can view it and give you some feedback.

Literacy

In your New Wave English in practice complete Day 9 of the booklet. Read the questions carefully making sure if you are asked to write an answer you write it in the box provided, if you’re asked to circle an answer you circle it, or if you are asked to tick a question, you tick it. Only do Day 9 today.

Today we are going to continue with our Guided Reading. Have a look on the timetable for today and see which book or chapter your group have to read. Once you have read your book or chapter, discuss what you have read with the adult who has listened to you. Once you have done this, take from your learning pack, the task for this piece of Guided Reading. When you answer your questions remember to use full sentences, capital letters and full stops. Remember to make sure your handwriting is neat and well presented. Read over your answers to ensure they make sense and are answering the question.

Once you have completed your Guided Reading task then you have an opportunity to continue learning and testing yourself on your weekly spellings which you received on Monday.

As today is World Book Day, I would like you to take some time out today to read a book. Every day I take time out to read. I love reading books and browsing in bookshops. Remember reading is not just for books, don’t forget  about comics, magazines and newspapers. So take some time out today for reading.

I have attached a story for you to listen to - I thought it was funny.

Remember to upload your finished work so I can view it and give you some feedback.

Numeracy

In your learning pack you will find your mental maths workbook for the next four weeks. Complete Thursday’s tasks for the second week.

For the remainder of this term we are going to look at money. We are going to look at the coins we use and how we can use our addition, subtraction and multiplication skills that we have been learning this year and how we can apply them to money.

Remember we only have the following coins in our currency or money 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2. Other countries will have different coins.

Today we are going to focus on the amount of change you would receive from an amount of money after you had bought or purchased something. Your tasks can be completed on your worksheets.

In your learning packs you will find two money booklets. I would like you to select Book 2 and complete the next two pages (numbered 52 and 53). Each page is asking about your change and the coins you would be given. We will be working within £2.00 which means the coins you can use are 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p and £1. On the first page (52) you have to find out what change you would get and write the letter of the amount of change that is correct for that sum, either A, B, C, D, E or F. On the second page( 53) you have to draw the correct amount of change you would give a customer if you were a cashier. Remember the coins you can only use.

Remember to upload your work so I can view it and give you feedback.

World Around Us

Where do Mammals live?

Mammals are found all around the world. Where a mammal lives is called it’s habitat. Most mammals live on land—on the ground, in trees, or even underground. Some mammals—including otters, beavers, and seals—live on land and in the water. Whales, dolphins, and manatees are mammals that spend their whole life in water. Some mammals such as bats also spend part of their lives in the air. Mammals live in all sorts of places in the world from the very coldest to the hottest. Mammals in order to live in these places have had to adapt not only to the temperatures, but also to what they eat (plants, meat or both), when they come out (day or night) and where they live (land, water, both or air).

I would like you to watch the attached YouTube video and focus on the above information. In your project books using the title Mammal Habitats, I would like you to tell me about where mammals live (habitat) giving examples of the mammals who live in these habitats. How have your examples adapted to their habitats? Do they have anything special that helps them to adapt? Do they live in their habitat for a special reason, such as food?

Remember to upload your finished work so I can view it and give you some feedback

Diary

I would like you to complete a diary entry for today. Remember to date your entry and answer the following questions:

How do I feel today? What did I like doing? What’s the weather like? What is happening in the world today?

For the last question you will have to listen to the news or ask an adult.

Remember to upload your work so I can view it and give you feedback.
