Primary 4O Tasks for Thursday 18 March 2021

17th Mar 2021

Hello boys and girls. I hope you enjoyed your day off yesterday, it was a lovely sunny day. As you are aware by now, we are all returning to school on next Monday 22 March, which is great news. Please make sure that your parents read Ms. McAuley’s letter regarding our return, as it contains some very important information.

These are today’s tasks. Please remember to upload your finished work so I can view it and give you some feedback.

Literacy

In your New Wave English in practice booklet, complete Day 18 Only do Day 18 today.

Today we are focussing on Guided Reading 📖 Have a look on the timetable for today and see which book or chapter 📚your group have to read. Once you have read your book or chapter, discuss what you have read with the adult who has listened to you. Once you have done this, take from your learning pack, the task for this piece of Guided Reading. When you answer your questions remember to use full sentences, capital letters and full stops. Remember to make sure your handwriting is neat and well presented. Read over your answers to ensure they make sense and are answering the question.

Once you have completed your Guided Reading task then you have an opportunity to continue learning and testing yourself on your weekly spellings which you received on Monday.

Remember to upload your work so I can view it and give you some feedback.

Numeracy

In your learning pack you will find your mental maths workbook. Complete Thursday’s tasks for the third week.

As we know we are looking at money. We are looking at the coins we use and how we can use our addition, subtraction and multiplication skills that we have been learning this year and apply them to money.

Remember we only have the following coins in our currency or money 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2.

Today we are going to focus on values up to 20p using 10p, 5p, 2p and 1p. In your Money booklet 2, select page 55 (The cake shop). This task can be completed on your worksheet. In this task you have to find the cost of of more than one of the same items from the cake shop and how much change you would receive from 15p. The first one has been done for you. A single tart costs 5p so two tarts would cost 2 X 5p = 10p. Your change would be  15p - 10p = 5p. So in today’s task we will be using our multiplication knowledge and our subtraction knowledge.

Read the questions carefully checking your answers and the cost you for each item from the cake shop.🤔

Remember to upload your work so I can view it and give you feedback.

World Around Us

We have been looking at mammals in this part of the term. We have seen where they live, what they eat and how they are divided into different types of mammals namely those that live on land, in the sea or water, and in the air. We have also looked at unusual mammals such as marsupials who have pouches, and monotremes which are egg laying mammals. We have also looked at extinct and endangered mammals. We have looked at the mammals that are local to us, here in Northern Ireland and on the island of Ireland.   With all this information and knowledge we have, we are now going apply it and do a project on mammals. I would like you to choose one mammal to focus on and complete some research on that mammal and present a project. This can be done in your project book or separately if you wish. If you have a pet such as a dog or cat you might wish to focus on them. In your projects I would like you to give me researched information on their characteristics, where they live, what they eat, any unusual habits or features they might have, if they are endangered etc. I would also like you to draw or take some pictures of them (if they are your own). Please do not download tons and tons of information from the internet; make sure you understand what you are writing.   The project can be done from today and over next week for handing in after we return from our Easter holidays. So get researching and enjoy your fact finding.

Diary

I would like you to complete a diary entry for today. Remember to date your entry and answer the following questions:

How do I feel today? What did I like doing? What’s the weather like? What is happening in the world today?

For the last question you will have to listen to the news or ask an adult. I had some interesting replies to this question last week, so keep them coming.

Remember to upload your work so I can view it and give you feedback.
