Primary 4O Tasks for Thursday 11 March 2021

10th Mar 2021

Hello boys and girls, I hope you are all well and coping with your tasks. I hope you have been enjoying this week’s science experiments. I have another one for you to try. I have received some great pictures which I will post all together at the end of the week. It was lovely to see some of you yesterday during our weekly catch up. These are your tasks for today. Remember to upload your finished work so I can view it and give you some feedback.

Literacy

In your New Wave English in practice booklet, complete Day 14. Only do Day 14 today.

Today we are focussing on Guided Reading ๐Ÿ“– Have a look on the timetable for today and see which book or chapter ๐Ÿ“šyour group have to read. Once you have read your book or chapter, discuss what you have read with the adult who has listened to you. Once you have done this, take from your learning pack, the task for this piece of Guided Reading. When you answer your questions remember to use full sentences, capital letters and full stops. Remember to make sure your handwriting is neat and well presented. Read over your answers to ensure they make sense and are answering the question.

Once you have completed your Guided Reading task then you have an opportunity to continue learning and testing yourself on your weekly spellings which you received on Monday.

Remember to upload your work so I can view it and give you some feedback.

Numeracy

In your learning pack you will find your mental maths workbook. Complete Thursday’s tasks for the third week.

As we know we are looking at money. We are looking at the coins we use and how we can use our addition, subtraction and multiplication skills that we have been learning this year and apply them to money.

Remember we only have the following coins in our currency or money 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2.

Today we are going to focus on values up to 20p using 10p, 5p, 2p and 1p. In your Money booklet 2, select page 53 (Shopping with 15p). This will be completed on your worksheet.

In part A we will be buying two items (addition) and you have to tell me how much change I will get from 15p (subtraction). I have given you two clues for the processes you have to use.

In part B you have to tell me in coins what change you would receive from 15p.

Read the questions carefully checking your answers and the coins you need to use for each amount.๐Ÿค”

Remember to upload your work so I can view it and give you feedback.

World Around Us

Today we are going to look at mammals which are Endangered. An endangered animal is an animal of which there are very few of them still left in the wild. You may be able to see them in zoos but that is not their natural habitat. There are many reasons why animals become endangered and one of the big problems is us - yes humans. We are responsible for many of the things that cause animals to become endangered such as deforestation, that is the chopping down of trees for various reasons such as, creating more farmland or for use of trees (wood) in making things. Sometimes we are responsible for removing the food the animals naturally feed on. This again can be due to deforestation or over planting of other crops, removal of certain animals who keep insects and other pests away from the plants. We also cause these animals’ habitat to change by using chemicals either in the air, on the land or in water. Another reason for some animals becoming endangered is that they are hunted, either for their skin or for their meat. In some cases, such as the polar bear, an animal’s natural habitat, which are the polar areas of the world has been reduced by global warming which means that the ice is melting and the polar bears have to travel further to get their food.   I have attached a video for you to watch on endangered animals which gives you information on some endangered animals and the reasons why they are endangered. At present their are about 700 endangered types of mammals. It would be terrible if any of these mammals became extinct, no longer to be seen in their natural habitat.   In your project books I would like you under the heading, Endangered Mammals, to give me five reasons why mammals become endangered and list 5 mammals which are currently considered endangered.

Remember to upload your finished work so I can view it and give you some feedback.

Science Week Experiment

This is British Science Week and each day I have been posting a fun experiment for you to try at home. As Mrs McLaughlin said in her letter explaining about this week on the school’s website, these are fun activities for all the family to try with the chance to learn some interesting and amazing scientific facts. Today we are going to make a tornado๐ŸŒช  in a bottle. A tornado or as it is sometimes called, a twister, is a vertical funnel of rapidly spinning air. Their winds may get up to 250 miles an hour and they can clear a pathway 1 mile wide and 50 miles long. They often come with thunderstorms โ›ˆ and hailstorms. They are one of Nature’s most destructive storms and are found mostly in the United States of America ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ. Today we are going to recreate a less destructive tornado in a bottle. I have attached a video explaining what to do and the scientific information for why it occurs. So watch the video, make your mini tornado and most of all have fun.๐Ÿ˜ฒ Send me some pictures of you doing the experiment.

Diary

I would like you to complete a diary entry for today. Remember to date your entry and answer the following questions:

How do I feel today? What did I like doing? What’s the weather like? What is happening in the world today?

For the last question you will have to listen to the news or ask an adult. I had some interesting replies to this question last week, so keep them coming.

Remember to upload your work so I can view it and give you feedback.
