P6-7C Week beginning 26th May

25th May 2020

Hi P6/7C

I hope that those of you who had a tea party yesterday afternoon had a fun time. It was lovely to see all the pictures on the school website.

I really enjoyed having a chat with most of P7 last week (those of you who weren't about when I phoned I will try again this week). I hope that you have made a start with your work for the Leavers' Book.

Numeracy:

Mental Maths - I have only given you a couple of tests this week and a times table speed test. For your maths work this week I have included some new learning. Therefore before having a go at the worksheets on equivalent fractions and simplifying fractions I  would like you to watch the video, click on the link below. It would be useful to watch the video a couple of times.

https://corbettmathsprimary.com/2018/07/24/equivalent-fractions-and-simplifying-fractions-videos/

This is taken from a website called 'corbett maths primary' this would be a very useful website for any P6 children doing transfer work as it includes a video explaining the maths concept for each area of the curriculum. Let me know if you found the video helpful.

Literacy:

For literacy this week I would like you to complete a book review for a book you have read recently. It is really important that you continue to read regularly. If you still have some literacy tasks from your learning pack please continue to use them.

Topic:

Finally I have included details for a competition that has come in from Mid and East Antrim Council. It is for any budding engineers and inventors, you are asked to design an innovative idea that would help our lives in the future. You may have seen on the news a number of different companies have designed a range of products to help people dealing with Coronavirus - for example a local secondary school had designed a hook for opening drawers and cupboard doors without having to touch them with your hands! Your design can be to do with anything as long as you can explain how it will help us in the future. So if you are feeling creative have a go at this competition.

Details can be found on the Science Summer Competition download.

As always do as much as you can manage and keep going over the basic times tables, number facts and read, read, read!!

Also take care and be kind.

Mr Calderwood
