P4/5M Week 2 (Term 3)

26th Apr 2020

Monday, 27th April, 2020

Hi P4/5M

I hope you are all keeping safe and keeping well.  The weather has been absolutely beautiful so I'm hoping that you are enjoying spending time playing in your garden and keeping fit outdoors. I have been walking everyday and I've done a wee, wee bit of running. My poor dog is exhausted with all the extra walking he is doing.

How did you find your school work this week?  Ben and Harry found it difficult to get back into their school work but I promised them that we would order Domino Pizza on Friday night if they got all their work done …… this helped to keep them motivated!

This week I would recommend that you continue with the New Waves Maths and New Waves English.  This is something I get Harry to do every morning and I think they are great for keeping his skills sharp.

As today, is Monday, you should be ready to start your next set of spellings along with the Jolly Grammar workbook.  Have you started the Dictionary workbook yet?  If so, I hope you are enjoying it.  As it is Monday, this is always a good day to do your comprehension task.  I'm going to upload a comprehension about 'Sunflowers'.  It's slightly different from the ones I sent home so it might make a nice change to do this one instead.  You can either print it out and write on the pages or read it from the computer and write the answers into your literacy book.  I hope you are finding time each day to relax with a good book.  I've spent some time reading in the garden this week as the weather has been so nice.  I also read every night in bed before I go to sleep.  I love reading and I hope that you love reading too.  I'm sure you are continuing to write some lovely sentences each week in your sentence booklet.  Don't forget to do some work from your handwriting booklet.  I hope your joined up writing is coming on well.

Numeracy - How are your tables coming along?  I hope you are finding some time each day to revise your multiplication facts.  These are very important and there are lots of activities in your Times Tables booklet for you to work your way through.  How are you getting on with your time booklet and data-handling booklet?  I hope you are finding them not too difficult.

As I said last week, always try your best.  If you can't get something done, please DON'T WORRY. It won't always be possible to get every task done.  Just do as much as you can.

Some other activities you might want to try this week are :-

  • Music - did you listen to some music from the 1980's?  I hope you did and I hope you found a favourite song.  If we had been in school this week we would have been finding out about an American artist called Elvis Presley.  I'm going to upload a power point for you to watch and to listen to some of his music.  You will also find his music on YouTube.  My Mum adored Elvis Presley and his music! I wonder if you will like any of his songs.  Also, if possible, I would like you to listen to some songs by Ed Sheeran … you can listen to his songs for free on Spotify. Once you've had an opportunity to listen to both artists let me know which style of music you like the best? Elvis Presley's rock and roll or the more modern tunes by Ed Sheeran.  Have fun!
  • TWAU - I'm going to upload a worksheet about flowers for you to label.  It is a nice easy task and if you can print it off you will be able to colour it in.  If not, you could copy it into your TWAU book and then colour it in. I'm going to upload a task called mystery-science.  It's a science/STEM based task for you to do and I think you will really enjoy it.  It also includes a template for making a card to give to someone. There is also a power point about plants for you to watch.
  • P.E. - if this good weather continues, please get outside as much as you can.  Have fun playing outside.
  • R.E. - the first miracle performed by Jesus was turning water into a wine at a Wedding in Cana.  I'm going to upload some worksheets about this story.  You don't have to do them all but you might want to try some of the puzzles.  There is also a story on YouTube for you to watch.  You might just want to watch the story, if so you will find it on YouTube - Jesus Wonder Animations - Jesus Turns Water Into Wine In the Wedding At Cana (Bible Cartoon stories for kids in English) It lasts 12.38 mins. Enjoy!
  • Research - I hope you enjoyed finding out about St George last week.  This week I would like you to find out something about a famous artist called Vincent Van Gogh.  This artist will tie in very well with the 'Sunflowers' comprehension.  For art I would love it if you could draw some beautiful flowers similar to the artwork produced by Vincent Van Gogh.
  • Being creative - this Friday, I would love it if you could write a short character sketch about Cinderella (sorry boys!) I'm going to upload a worksheet to make this easier for you.
  • Life skills - I hope that we can all tie our laces by now.  That would be great if we could.  For this week I would like you to make toast for your family.  I remember how much fun you had when we made toast in school.
  • ICT - if possible, try to send me an email to let me know that you are keeping safe and keeping well.  I had a lovely email from Regan at the weekend and it was so lovely to hear how she is getting on.  Also, if you have a garden, perhaps you could use a mobile phone to take a photograph of some of the flowers/plants in your garden and if possible you could email me you photographs.

Remember, don't be getting stressed over your school work.  All of the extra activities I suggested above is for you to try out, but please don't worry if you can't fit any of it in.

I'm still missing you all so much.  Please keep safe and keep well.

Love and best wishes

Mrs Kim McLaughlin xx
