P4/5M Week 1 (Term 3)

20th Apr 2020

Good morning P4/5

I hope all of you are keeping well. I hope you had a relaxing Easter break and enjoyed spending time with your family and eating lots of yummy Easter eggs ..... I think I ate too many, if I'm being honest!

Hopefully you are feeling refreshed and ready to start some school work today. I'm feeling enthusiastic about starting again but I don't think Ben and Harry share my enthusiasm!

I would recommend that you continue to complete one section from your New Waves Maths and one section from your New Waves English each day. As, today is Monday, have a look at your spellings for this week and try your workbook pages from the Jolly Grammar book. Try to fit in one of the comprehensions I sent home and remember to spend time relaxing with a good book .... it is really important to read everyday. Throughout the week, try to write some sentences into your sentence workbook and do some handwriting practice.

For Numeracy, continue to learn 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times tables. Play some mental maths games and complete some activities from your Times Tables booklets. For topic maths continue to work on the 'Time' booklet and the 'data-handling' booklet. Also, try to do a section from your big mental maths workbook.

I know that this might sound a lot .... but please don't WORRY .... do what you can and always try your best. You are such a hardworking wee class so I know you will always do your best ♥

Some other activities you might want to try this week are :-

  • Music - continue to play your recorder. This term we would have been looking at famous musicians/composers. If you get a chance go onto YouTube and listen to songs from the 1980's ... if possible, email me the name of your most favourite song from the 1980's and the name of the singer/ artist.
  • TWAU - 'Walk in the Park Topic' - now that parks are beginning to reopen, perhaps you could visit a park for a nice, long walk. Look at the trees and see if you can identify them. Try some bark rubbings. Bring a plastic bag with you and gather up some leaves, twigs, flowers. When you get home, examine them closely. Look at their colours/textures etc. If you have a magnifying glass, use it to examine them. Once you have finished you could make a collage picture using the leaves and flowers. If you can't get to a park, don't worry .... use your garden instead.
  • P.E. - as the weather is beautiful please try to get out everyday. Go for long walks, ride your bike or learn how to ride a bike, kick a ball, jog, run, jump, skip, dance .... have fun and keep active.
  • R.E. - this term we would have been looking at Jesus and his miracles. For this week try to find out the name of the first miracle Jesus performed. If you can, email me your answer.
  • Research - St George's Day is on Thursday, 23rd April. Find out who St George was. Use the sheets I have uploaded. There is also a wordsearch and lots of lovely colouring pages for you to print off and colour in
  • Being creative - in your stories and poems book, draw and colour a picture of your most favourite character from a TV programme/film. It could be anyone ... Bart Simpson, Scooby Doo, Harry Potter. For all the gamers in our class it could be a character from Minecraft or Fortnite. Once you have your picture finished write a few sentences about your character. Tell me what they look like and why you chose your character ... have fun!!
  • Life skills - if you can't tie laces, make it a target to learn how to tie laces this week. It would be lovely if our whole class could tie their laces before we return to school
  • ICT - if possible try to send me an email. I recently received an email from Regan and it was truly lovely to hear from her. It really cheered me up. I also saw a piece of creative writing written by Ella and it was wonderful....I can't wait to read the finished story. If any of you have any work you would like to show me, I would love to see it.

I'm missing you all so much. Please keep safe and keep well. I will send you a weekly update every Monday.

Love and best wishes,

Mrs Kim McLaughlin x
