P3EH notes for week beginning Monday 8th June 2020

Dear Primary 3 boys and girls,

I hope you are enjoying the start to this final month of Primary 3 and that you are all still continuing to be healthy and happy as always. I do not know where the time has gone!

For Literacy this week we are continuing our Nelson Grammar and comprehension activities. The comprehension for this week is ‘flowers’ which links to our recent bee investigations and our spelling list for this week is shapes which we learnt a great deal about earlier in the year.  As always don’t forget to ask someone at home whether that be mummy and daddy or a sibling to give you a wee spelling test later in the week so you can test yourself. I also hope that you are continuing to read as much as possible and practice various forms of writing when you can. This week I have included a little acrostic poem alongside your usual minibeast comprehension within your WAU work for a little change. If you are not sure what an acrostic poem is you have to start each line of the poem with a word that starts with that letter ie L – Lovely, little ladybird flying high above etc. Mummy and daddy will explain this to you further if you need it or you can google acrostic poems and you will find lots of examples on the internet.

In Numeracy this week we are starting tens and units activities with exchange (please see attached notes). Alongside this we are continuing to complete the remaining partitioning and Heinemann activities within our workpacks and any twinkl Numeracy activities that you may have yet to complete from last week. I think we may now also be coming towards the end of our mental maths activities as this week you should be on pages 70 and 71 of your new wave mental maths booklets.

For WAU this week I thought that it might be nice to focus on ladybirds, again another of my favourite insects. Within this I have included various activities as usual and I have also included a link to the national  geographic kids ladybird fact page at www.natgeokids.com/uk/discover/animals/insects/ladybird-facts where you can find out more information on these fascinating insects. Maybe when you are outside more now, you can have a hunt to see if you can find any ladybirds. Whilst outside you might also wish to participate in the Mid East and Antrim Borough bike week which starts this week, the link for which is https://www.mynewsdesk.com/uk/meabc/pressreleases/get-in-gear-for-bike-week-video-challenges-3004418. Alongside the sustrans weekly challenges this is a fun way to practice your bike skills, get outside and stay fit and healthy all in one.
