Online Safety and Social Media

21st Mar 2024

This morning we welcomed Ballymena Neighbourhood Police to the school to speak to Key Stage 2 about online safety and the use of social media.
We are all aware of the increased use of social media apps by the children through mobile phones, iPads and other devices and it is essential that children are aware of how to stay safe while online. More and more children now have their own mobile phones while of primary school age. It is vitally important they know about the dangers and the risks which are also associated with these apps, who they interact with, what information they share and what they should not send online. As parents, you will also need to monitor children's online presence to ensure their safety, avoiding unnecessary risks.
We hope the children enjoyed the talk today and that they will be able to share information with you at home.
After Easter we will share details of a workshop we are facilitating in school, for the upper Key Stage 2 parents on "Parenting in a Digital World". We hope this will provide you with information and guidance on this important subject.
