Primary 4O Tasks Monday 22nd of February 2021
Hello boys and girls, I hope you had a good half term break. I sent a message to remind parents to collect your new learning packs today. Please remind them to do this as they are needed for your tasks.
Remember to upload your work so I can view it and give you feedback.
Literacy
In your learning packs you will find a workbook entitled New Wave English in practice. This is a new booklet which we will complete each day. It helps us to see how much we remember from our grammar work and our spelling work. I would like you to complete Day 1 of the booklet. Read the questions carefully making sure if you are asked to write an answer you write it in the box provided, if you’re asked to circle an answer you circle it, or if you are asked to tick a question, you tick it. Only do Day 1 today.
Our main task today is a comprehension called, Going to school which you will find in your learning pack. You will complete this task in your literacy books. Read the comprehension text carefully a couple of times and think about what it is telling you. Remember to number the questions, date your work and give it a title. Remember to answer your questions in full sentences using capital letters, neat handwriting and take a new line for each answer.
In your pack you will also find your weekly spellings please practice and learn them. Test yourself and get an adult to test you each day.
Remember to upload your work so I can view it and give you feedback.
Numeracy
In your learning pack you will find your mental maths workbook. Complete Monday’s task on the first week. Think carefully what the questions are asking.
For the remainder of this term we are going to look at money. We are going to look at the coins we use and how we can use our addition, subtraction and multiplication skills that we have been learning this year and how we can apply them to money.
We use money to buy things such as food, clothes, toys and books. We use money to pay for things such as electricity, oil or gas for heating, houses, holidays, parties and entry into places such as a cinema or swimming pool. We can also earn money for doing a job or as pocket money. In Northern Ireland our money is made up of a mixture of coins and notes. We are going to focus on the coins we use. If you or your parents have any coins at home, take a look at them. Look at their size, their value and what is engraved on them. What do you notice? Are all the coins of the same value exactly the same in appearance? Think about what you use money for and ask your parents what they use money for - you might be surprised at the many things money is used for.
I would like you to watch the following YouTube video about the coins we use.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4VUZZfh2TE (Coins of the United Kingdom).
We only have the following coins in our currency or money 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2. Other countries will have different coins.
In your learning packs you will find two money booklets. I would like you to select Book 1 and complete the first two pages. The work can be completed on your sheet. You have to find the total of each row of coins by adding them up. Put your answer in the box at the end of each row.
Remember to upload your work so I can view it and give you feedback.
World Around Us
We are now starting our new topic on Mammals. Mammals are part of the animal kingdom. To start our topic I would like you to complete the KWL sheet you will find in your learning pack. Complete only the K (What I know) and W (What I would like to know) sections of the sheet. Think about which animals, you think, might be mammals and use that as a basis of your knowledge and your questions.
Remember to upload your work so I can view it and give you feedback.
Diary
I would like you to complete a diary entry for today. Remember to date your entry and answer the following questions:
How do I feel today? What did I like doing? What’s the weather like? What is happening in the world today?
For the last question you will have to listen to the news or ask an adult.
Remember to upload your work so I can view it and give you feedback.
