Letter for Primary 4O
Hi Primary 4
Our school is not open as normal again this week, so I hope you are all still looking after yourselves and keeping safe. We are now starting the month of June which would have been our last month before we break for the summer holidays. The weather is still lovely so get outside and enjoy yourself. Summer starts tomorrow so don’t forget to take care in the sun. Remember to use sunblock, wear a hat and light clothing, sunglasses and not to spend too long exposed to the hot sun. Also keep hydrated and find a shady spot. I have attached a leaflet to help you. Remember to carry on being helpful for your family and looking after yourselves. Keep following all the rules regarding hand washing, social distancing, exercise and shopping routines. It is important that we keep doing them every day.
I am still okay and keeping well. I am still busy in my ever- changing garden and exercising at home every day.
It was lovely to see the pictures of everyone’s tea parties last week. You all looked so happy and enjoying the lovely treats.
Don’t forget to have a go at the Avatar Quiz organised by Mrs. Young. Email your entries/ answers to Mrs. Young at cyoung439@c2kni.net by 4p.m. on Tuesday 2nd June. Good luck, I am still trying to work out some of them!
Remember, if you need any help with anything, please send me an email and I will try to help as best I can. I would love to see all the great work you are doing or what you have been up to. Send me any photographs and videos of you to share on our school website. My school email address is tosullivan900@c2kni.net.
I've uploaded some notes and worksheets for literacy, numeracy and The World Around Us to help you this week. I hope you find them useful and not too difficult. Remember, only do what you can and try your best!
Keep on working and set aside some time each day, as if you were in school. A little every day goes a long way!
The World Around Us
• I hope our topic for this term on Plants, Flowers and Trees is still going well. How well are your plants growing? Have any of them begun to flower or blossom? Have any developed buds and shoots? Lots of my plants have begun to flower and the bees have been very busy this year. How are you getting along with your plant research? Keep recording what you have been doing in your planting/ growing diary. Don’t forget to add illustrations to show what you did or has happened. Keep helping your family with the gardening tasks. Send me some photographs of how things are growing. You could put these into a growing sequence. It was lovely to see Logan’s plant project which I have posted on our class section on the school’s website.
• If you don’t have a garden, what have you noticed or seen change around you when you are out on your walk especially in the local parks and forests. Looking out I can see the changes in my neighbours’ gardens and because many of them are working from home or on lockdown they have had extra time to work on their gardens which look lovely. Now that garden centres are open you may even want to plant a flowerpot with seeds or young plant and see how it grows. Remember to record these changes and draw pictures or take photographs to show these changes. Again, you could sequence them.
• Don’t forget there are loads of Internet sites on which you will find out lots of interesting information about our wonderful plant world. Have a look at some of the gardening sites such as http://www.bbc.co.uk/gardening/gardening_with_children/ which has plenty of information and some home projects you might like to try. There are also some gardening programmes on the TV, showing things you could grow. Have look and have a go.
• This week we are going to look in more detail at the life cycle of a plant. I have attached a power point, a short information video -https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zpxnyrd/articles/z2vdjxs, information and worksheet for this week for you to try. If you don’t have a home printer you could copy out the sheet filling in the answers.
Don’t forget to have a look at any relevant sites put onto our school’s website for this topic.
Next week we will be moving onto our final topic for this year, sound.
Literacy
• This week I would like you to look at antonyms (opposites), synonyms (similar) and homophones (similar sound but different meaning and spelling), which we have covered over the last few weeks. I have attached a work booklet for you to try. Don’t try to do it all at once because there is lots to do. Spread the work out over the week.
• Continue practicing your spellings. Keep testing yourself and see how you get on.
• Keep on with your reading. Try doing a weekly book review on your reading book. What about exchanging your book reviews with your friends? I have attached a template for you to use.
• How is your diary or scrapbook getting along? Remember to date of each entry. Remember things like the weather, what you did (exercise) and even what you ate! Don’t forget the things that have been happening in the world or locally, like recent rocket launch. Don’t forget to illustrate it or take photographs.
• Remember you can use interactive websites as fun learning resources such as, wwwprimaryhomeworkhelp.co.uk. Don’t forget there are also online books which can be downloaded or listened to and numerous word games. You tube have some great Julia Donaldson stories which you know I really enjoy. Keep an eye on our school website for different sites and activities. Keep practicing your handwriting.
Numeracy
• Continue practicing your counting and revising your multiplication tables. Get an adult to test you. I have attached a worksheet for the 5 times table. Play number or counting games such as Snakes & Ladders or have a try at some of the online number games you can play.
• This week we are going to look at subtraction using tens and units with and without exchange. Remember when we subtract using tens and units, we always start in the units’ column. If we can do the sum, we put down the answer and then move onto the tens’ column and complete the sum. If we are unable to do the sum in the units’ column, we then go to the tens’ column, exchange one ten for 10 units, remembering to score out the upper tens number and show 1 less ten. The exchanged units are then shown in the units’ column and the sum can be completed. There is an example for you on each of the worksheets. Good luck with the tasks. Get an adult to check over your answers.
• Don’t forget there are interactive websites which are a good fun learning resource for this (e.g. wwwprimaryhomeworkhelp.co.uk, BBC Bitesize).
So, until next week, boys and girls remember to take care of yourselves and your families, follow all the rules, be good and stay safe. Miss you all and hoping to see you all soon. Don’t Worry Be Happy!! Enjoy the good weather.
Primary 4O remember ‘We always try our best’
