End of an Era- Mrs Carey Retires

30th Aug 2019

After 30 years at Braidside IPS, Mrs Carey; our longest-serving member of staff; retired today. Mrs Carey joined Braidside in 1989 as one of the founding teachers. She worked in the school when it opened in Wakehurst and then when the school moved to the Fry's Road in 1992. Mrs Carey has worked predominantly within Foundation and Key Stage 1 but had a wealth of experience with all age groups. In the last few years Mrs Carey acted as the school's Active Travel Champion and had responsibility for organising and developing the very successful Sustrans programme within the school and even held an after-school yoga class. In years past she also had responsibility for Literacy and sacramental preparation.

We are saddened to see Mrs Carey leave, but we were grateful that she was able to work this last week of August with us and spend these last 2 days with the children. We would hope to have Mrs Carey visit the school during the Autumn term, in order that we could mark her retirement appropriately and so that everyone will have a chance to say a proper goodbye. Today however, the staff decided to have an impromptu farewell with pizza and cake to mark the last day of teaching.

We are very grateful to Mrs Carey for her commitment and enthusiasm to teaching and the children, and for the significant contribution she made at Braidside. We wish her well for a long and healthy retirement and hope that she enjoys many trips to Australia to visit her children and grandchildren!
