The Braidside Kite

In 2009, the theme for Integrated Education Week was ‘Flying a Kite for Integration’. The inspiration for our Kite came from seeing an exhibition of work by an Irish-born American abstract artist named Sean Scully.

The idea was very simple. Every child (and teacher) in school was given a piece of card, which they then wrapped in wool. Each individual thought about how they could choose colours and styles that represented them in some way and some of the older children were very creative. People came up with all sorts of ways and means to make their piece unique to them!
Our Friendship Quilt

Braidside thought it would be a great idea to make a quilt to commemorate Integrated Education week 2011 based on the theme of friendship.

After each child had drawn their friend on a square of fabric, they were all stitched together and added with some quotes about friendship contributed by the teachers.
