Get ready once again to bike, cycle and walk your way to success. The big Sustrans walk and wheel 2023 is back!

16th Mar 2023

From Monday 20th March to Friday 31st March our school will be once again participating in the Sustrans 'big walk and wheel' competition. This is a UK wide competition whereby we compete with other schools to get the highest numbers of pupils actively travelling to and from school each day and hopefully win prizes for our school in the process. Last year we were very successful winning our overall region and coming second in Northern Ireland. We are hoping to go even further this year.

We will have a number of activities throughout the next two weeks. Every day we are asking children to travel actively to and from school as much as possible. There will also be additional activities on certain days as follows:

Tuesday 21st March - We encourage all P1 and P2 children to bring their bikes or scooters to school for our very popular scoot/bike round the turning circle session.

Wednesday 22nd March - Nursery and P3 and P4 children are asked to bring their bikes or scooters to school for their scooting/cycling session.

Thursday 23rd March - All P5, P6 and P7 children are asked to bring their bikes and scooters to school for their scooting/cycling session.

Friday 24th March - Bling your bike/scooter day - All children in the school are asked to bling their bike/scooter for school and there will be prizes for the winning bling.

Monday 27th March - Friday 31st March - Travel actively to and from school as much as possible.

Friday 31st March - We will once again host our walk together event from Ballymena North. We will all meet between 8.30 and 8.40 am and will walk together to school to make the last day really count. This was a lovely event last year and one not to be missed. Please remember that it is essential that all children are accompanied on this walk by an adult.

I will also be offering a homework pass to all of the children in the class who has the most journeys overall throughout the two weeks.

Please ensure that all bikes particularly are checked for safety prior to Monday and also ensure that children know the importance of remaining safe whilst walking, scooting or cycling to school.

I look forward to seeing you strolling/cycling/scooting in the gate first thing on Monday morning. A big thankyou as always to everyone for making this event possible, Mrs Horan.
